Nigerian Breweries Plc., formerly Nigerian Breweries
Limited, is a Nigeria-based company. It is a subsidiary of Heineken N.V incorporated
in 1946. It currently operates eight breweries in Nigeria in addition to ultra-modern
malting plant in Aba and Kaduna.
It was the pioneer and largest brewing company in Nigeria. It first produced STAR Lager in its Lagos Brewery in June 1949.
Other breweries later emerged in Aba in 1957, Kaduna Breweries in 1963 and Ibadan Breweries in 1982. In September 1993, it acquired its fifth brewery in Enugu and sixth in Ama, Enugu State on October 2003. Operations in the Enugu Brewery were discontinued in 2004, while the company acquired a malting plant in Aba in 2008.
Ama Brewery is the largest brewery in Nigeria and one of the most modern worldwide.
In October 2011, Nigerian Breweries acquired majority equity interests in Sona Systems Associate Business Management Limited, (Sona Systems) and Life Breweries Limited from Heineken N.V. This followed Heineken’s acquisition of controlling interests in five breweries in Nigeria from Sona Group in January 2011.
Sona Systems’ two breweries in Onitsha have now become part of Nigeria Breweries Plc., together with the three brands: Goldberg lager, Malta Gold and Life Continental lager.
It has a total of 2,240 employees with Kola B. Jamodu as the Chairman and M.J Herkeniyi as the CEO.
Its total Net profit is N30,332,118,000 while its total Revenue is N186,122,212,000.
